CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE I
Name

This organization will be known as the General Federation of Women's Club - Swartz Creek, hereinafter referred to as GFWC Swartz Creek.  This document will be officially known as the Constitution of the GFWC Swartz Creek, who is affiliated with the General Federation of Women=s Clubs - Michigan and the National General Federation of Women=s Clubs.

ARTICLE II
Purpose

The purpose of the GFWC Swartz Creek is to share and promote intellectual and moral culture in our community through service projects which enhance lives by meeting needs, as well as improve our community.

ARTICLE III
Membership

Neither membership in, nor services provided by the GFWC Swartz Creek, will be denied to anyone on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, physical or mental disability, age, ancestry, or medical condition. 

ARTICLE IV
Officers and Elections

The elective officers for the GFWC Swartz Creek will be:

President
Vice-president
Chairperson
Vice-chairperson
Recording Secretary - Day
Recording Secretary - Evening
Treasurer
Director

The officers will be elected by ballot at the annual meeting held in June with a term of two (2) years.  No officer may retain their position for more than two (2) consecutive terms.  The officers will constitute the Executive Board.

ARTICLE V
Installation Ceremony

The installation ceremony may be performed by the retiring President or any representative with the General Federation of Women=s Clubs - Michigan or the National General Federation of Women=s Clubs.


The Installing Officer says:

AGive attention while I read to you the obligation:

Do you hereby pledge on your honor to perform the duties of your respective offices as required by the Bylaws of the GFWC Swartz Creek; to the best of your ability and with complete good faith to support, advance and carry out all official policies of the GFWC Swartz Creek; to deliver all books, papers and other property of this organization that may be in your possession at the end of your term to your successor in office, and at all times conduct yourself as becomes a member of this organization?

Officers respond, AI do.@

The Installing Officer then says:

AYour duties are defined in the Bylaws of this organization, and in your obligation; should any emergency arise not provided for in these, you are expected to act according to the dictates of common sense, guided by an earnest desire to advance the best interest of this organization.  I trust you will all faithfully perform your duties so that you may gain not only the esteem of the members of this organization, but what is of even more importance, the approval of your conscience.

You will now assume your respective stations.@

ARTICLE VI
Meetings

General membership meetings will be held as follows:

1.   The first Tuesday during the months of February, April, June, August, October, and December, at 1:00 p.m., at Murbach Hall located at the United Methodist Church of Swartz Creek; and,

2.   The first Tuesday of each month, at 6:30 p.m. at locations announced to the active members by the President at the preceding meeting.

Annual membership meeting will be held for the election of officers during the month of June with the date and location being announced to the active members by the President at the preceding meeting.

Special meetings may be called by the President or by any three officers.  The call for a special meeting must state the business to be transacted and no other business may be conducted at the special meeting.  A majority of the active members present for the special meeting will constitute a quorum.


ARTICLE VII
Quorum

Active members present during a general membership meeting will constitute a quorum for the transaction of business, with no restriction of a fraction of the number of active members required to conduct business.

 

ARTICLE VIII
Amendments

This Constitution can be amended at the annual general membership meeting held in June by a majority vote of the active members present, with the proposed amendment having been submitted in writing and read to the active members at the preceding general membership meeting.
